Personal Injury
If I get into an auto accident, what should I do first?
The law requires that the driver of any vehicle involved in an accident stop at the scene and remain there. Do not move the cars unless their position causes a dangerous condition.

What should I do if someone is hurt?
If there are injured people you must immediately call for an ambulance. Dialing 911 will get you both the police and an ambulance. Do not attempt to treat the injured person yourself.

What type of information do I need to exchange with other drivers?
Every driver should exchange his name and address and the name and identification number of his insurance company with the other driver(s). Ask to see the other driver's license, registration and insurance card, and copy this information down. When the police arrive, write down the name & badge number of the police officer.

Is there anything I should say to other drivers?
Except for exchanging the required information with other drivers, you should not engage in any discussion. Tell the police officer your version of the accident. You should cooperate completely with the officer who is handling the investigation.

What about witnesses?
Attempt to get the name, address and phone number of any witness to the accident.

What if I get hurt in the accident?
Get your injuries cared for immediately at a hospital or at your personal physician's office. Tell the examining doctor every complaint and injury you have, no matter how minor you may think it is. A serious internal injury may not show immediately. Help your doctor help you.

How should I notify my insurance?
Whenever you are in an accident involving an injury or property damage, notify your insurance company immediately or within a reasonable time after the accident. Failure to do this may result in loss of coverage.
